January 1st New Years Day - New Year's Day is a national holiday celebrated on January 1st, the first day of the New Year, following both the Gregorian and the Julian calendar. - New Year's Day is probably the most celebrated public holiday, often observed with fireworks at the stroke of midnight as the new year starts in each time zone.

January 18th Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday held on the third Monday of January. It celebrates the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr., an influential American civil rights leader. He is most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation on public transport and for racial equality in the United States.

January 27th Signing of the Vietnam Peace Accord in 1973 - The United States, South Vietnam, Viet Cong, and North Vietnam formally sign “An Agreement Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam” in Paris. Due to South Vietnam’s unwillingness to recognize the Viet Cong’s Provisional Revolutionary Government, all references to it were confined to a two-party version of the document signed by North Vietnam and the United States—the South Vietnamese were presented with a separate document that did not make reference to the Viet Cong government. This was part of Saigon’s long-time refusal to recognize the Viet Cong as a legitimate participant in the discussions to end the war.

The settlement included a cease-fire throughout Vietnam. It addition, the United States agreed to the withdrawal of all U.S. troops and advisors (totalling about 23,700) and the dismantling of all U.S. bases within 60 days. In return, the North Vietnamese agreed to release all U.S. and other prisoners of war.

The Annual VFW Post 4709 Fund Raiser Benefit - The Montgomery County VFW Post 4709 in Conroe Texas is having a benefit fundraiser to help the Post to be able to help the veterans become more active at the Post and to help continue memberships for those that are not able to pay for their memberships on their own. The Post is asking for donations to have for a Auction. There will be raffles and cake walks, with BBQ Plates to help in this fundraiser. Please help us, so we can continue to be one of the Strongest VFW Post in the Nation.
 
   
February 11th The VFW Post 4709 Annual Valentine's Day Dance - 6 p.m.
 
   
February 14th Valentine's Day - Every February 14, across the United States and in other places around the world, candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. Named after a mysterious saint. It originated as a Western Christian liturgical feast day honoring one or more early saints named Valentinus, and is recognized as a significant cultural and commercial celebration in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country. Valentine once wrote a letter to a woman that he helped heal, at the end he signed it "Your Valentine".
 
   
February 15th Sinking of U.S.S. Maine, 1898 - The Sinking of the USS Maine took place on February 15th, 1898, The Montgomery County VFW in Conroe Texas will be honoring the memory of those veterans that lost their lives and also remembering those at home receiving the news of loved ones lost. Join our Veterans and Auxiliary members for this ceremony on Monday February 15th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

March 17th Saint Patrick's Day - Every year on March 17, the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe observe St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green.

May 1st Loyalty Day - Loyalty Day. May 1st. Scheduled over the weekend of May 1st and 2nd. First observed in 1927 as “Americanization Day,” this day has been set aside for the reaffirmation of loyalty to the United States and for the recognition of the heritage of American freedom. It’s a day little known to most working Americans, but one that should be celebrated openly as a remembrance of our collective responsibility to continue the legacy of liberty handed down by our founding fathers.

May 8th VE Day: German unconditional surrender signed, 1945.  The end of the War in Europe. A ceremony will be held at the Post at 3 p.m. on May 8th, 2016.
 
   
May 14th Mothers Day - Mother's Day in the United States is annually held on the second Sunday of May. It celebrates motherhood and it is a time to appreciate mothers and mother figures. Many people give gifts, cards, flowers, candy, a meal in a restaurant or other treats to their mother and mother figures, including grandmothers, great-grandmothers, stepmothers, and foster mothers.

May 21st Armed Forces Day - Many Americans celebrate Armed Forces Day annually on the third Saturday of May. It is a day to pay tribute to men and women who serve the United States’ armed forces. Armed Forces Day is also part of Armed Forces Week, which begins on the second Saturday of May.
 
   
May 29th Memorial Day - May 30th, 2016 - A day to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice when fighting for the freedom of this great country. A ceremony will be held at the Post at 3 p.m.

June 6th D Day: Allied invasion of Europe, 1944 - The anniversary of the landings in Normandy for the beginning of the invasion in Europe. A ceremony will be held at the Post on June 6th, 2016 at 3 p.m.
 
   
June 14th Flag Day - June 14th, 2016 - Our heritage is bound to the American Flag, we look at the flag with pride and we look to the Flag to honor those that are killed in defending this country when the flag is covering our heroes that return home to the country to be buried. Flag Day is our heritage to never forget. A ceremony will be held at the Post on June 14th, 2016 at 3 p.m.

June 19th Fathers Day - Father's Day in the United States is on the third Sunday of June. It celebrates the contribution that fathers and father figures make for their children's lives. Its origins may lie in a memorial service held for a large group of men, many of them fathers, who were killed in a mining accident in Monongah, West Virginia in 1907.
 
   
   
July 4th Independence Day - July 4th, 1776 - July 4th. The birth of our nation sets the stage for fireworks, picnics, parades and Mercer Island’s own “Summer Celebration.” This day recognizes the anniversary of the publication of the declaration of independence from Great Britain in 1776. Patriotic displays and family events are organized throughout the United States and many people take the opportunity to embrace all things red, white, and blue. Mom, baseball, and apple pie tend to take center stage as well, as this classic celebration has deep roots in the American tradition of political freedom and the American ideal.

August 4th United States Coast Guard 225th Birthday
 
August 7th Purple Heart Day - Purple Heart Day is an observance that commemorates the creation of the Purple Heart Medal in 1782. The purple heart medal is awarded to those who were wounded or killed while serving the US military. Thank soldiers for their service today. The holiday also encourages people to pay their respects to fallen soldiers, to listen to the stories of soldiers and veterans, and to thank them for their service to the nation.

August 31st Operation Iraqi Freedom - The invasion began on 20 March 2003, with the U.S. and several coalition allies launching a bombing campaign. Iraqi forces were quickly overwhelmed as U.S. forces swept through the country. The U.S. formally withdrew all combat troops from Iraq by December 2011.
 
   
   
September 2nd VJ Day: Japan surrendered, 1945, ending World War II fighting.  Japan Surrendered September 2nd, 1945 - On August 14, 1945, it was announced that Japan had surrendered unconditionally to the Allies, effectively ending World War II. On September 2, 1945, Japan’s formal surrender took place aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay.

September 11th Patriot's Day - 9/11 - The tragedy of the twin towers, the pentagon, and the flights that were part of terrorism on American Soil is remembered to never let the cowardice actions take place on our soil again. This is also a day to remember all of those that lost their lives on 9/11. A ceremony will be held at the Post on September 11th, 2016 at 3 p.m.
 
   
September 14th VFW Auxiliary - National Organization's 103rd Birthday - September 16th, 1914.
   
September 16th POW/MIA Recognition Day - Third Friday in September. - September 16th, 2016 This is the day our black flag flies highest, for those who have been prisoners of war (POW) or remain missing in action (MIA) are not to be forgotten. Many Americans take the time to remember not only the POW/MIA, but their family members and loved ones as well. As for the black flag, all military installations fly the National League of Families’ POW/MIA flag, which symbolizes the nation’s remembrance of those who were imprisoned while serving in conflicts and those who remain missing. The Post will be conducting a ceremony to remember the Prisoners Of War and the Missing In Action at 7 p.m.

September 25th Gold Star Mother's Day - Gold Star Mother’s Day is observed in the United States on the last Sunday of September each year. It is a day for people to recognize and honor those who have lost a son or daughter while serving the United States Armed Forces.
 
   
September 29th VFW Birthday - The Veterans of Foreign War will be celebrating it's 118th birthday. The Post will be conducting a ceremony at 7 p.m. on September 29th, 2016, come join us.

October 10th Columbus Day - Which is on the second Monday of October, remembers Christopher Columbus' arrival to the Americas on October 12, 1492. This holiday is controversial because the European settlement in the Americas led to the demise of the history and culture of the indigenous peoples.

October 13th United States Navy 239th Birthday - In March 1794 Congress responded by calling for the construction of a half-dozen frigates. October 13, 1775 remains the U.S. Navy's official birthday.
 
   
October 18th Recognition of Women in Military Service - The Montgomery County VFW Post 4709 in Conroe Texas is pleased to honor and respect the Women that are serving and that have served in the United States Military. October 18th is Recognition of Women in the Military.

The history of America as a country that has fought for it's freedom, the freedom of other countries, and engagements throughout the world have always had women serving to help. In past, women have served in a behind the lines support role, but today with the branches opening up opportunities for women to serve in combat support and front line positions, women are expected to do more. There are a few that have gone thru Ranger School, one of the toughest military challenges for any soldier to do, but women are now among those that are today's trail blazers, opening more and more opportunities up for the rest of the women.

VFW Post 4709 thanks you and honors the commitments and sacrifices that have been made in the past, today, and those that will be joining to continue to help open more opportunities for Women in the Military.

November 11th Veterans Day - Armistice Day - November 11th. The Montgomery County VFW Post in Conroe will be celebrating and remembering Veterans Day, in remembrance of all Veterans that have served this great country, and those that never made it home. Stop by the Post at 7 p.m. to help us remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice with those that have served.
 
   
November 11th Signing World War I Armistice, 1918, Veterans Day - The Signing of the Armistice in World War I - November 11th. This day is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended the World War I hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918. Veterans have since been thanked by those in public office and communities across the country for their services and sacrifices in defense of the United States. Today, Veterans Day is intended to honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars, particularly living veterans. It is marked by parades and church services and in many places the American flag is flown at half-mast. A period of silence lasting two minutes may be held at 11:00 am, Eastern Standard Time.
 
   
November 15th The Montgomery County VFW and Auxiliary in Conroe Texas will be conducting a Post and Auxiliary meeting on November 16th at 7 p.m. Please come and join the VFW or Auxiliary if eligible to join.
 
   
November 19th ??? Saturday, 11-21-2016, the Post will be deep frying Turkeys. For those Post and Auxiliary members, the Post will deep fry your turkey for free. November 24th Thanksgiving - It's the night before Thanksgiving, the Post will be hosting a dinner for all veterans and their families tomorrow. Members of the Post and Auxiliary have been hard at work cooking and setting up for the event. It's not too late to make plans to attend, there is plenty of food. Start time is 2 p.m.
 
   
   
December 6th The Montgomery County VFW and Auxiliary in Conroe Texas will be conducting a Post and Auxiliary meeting on December 7th at 7 p.m. Please come and join the VFW or Auxiliary if eligible to join.  A ceremony will be held for Pearl Harbor Day.
 
   
December 7th Pearl Harbor Day, since 1941 - “A day that will live in infamy…” as President Franklin D. Roosevelt announced to a joint session of Congress and the nation the day after the Imperial Japanese Navy air attack on the U. S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands. War in the Pacific had finally come. Some of our local veterans were personally impacted by this event, due either to their Japanese-American heritage or later voluntary service in the Pacific or European theaters of war.
